Charles Carter started his professional bread baking career in 2004. While working at Chesapeake Bagel in State College, he began a small wholesale and retail business selling artisan breads to health food stores and individuals. In 2006, after Chesapeake Bagel closed, he made breads and baked bagels for Irvings Bagels (State College).

Charles moved to Williamsport in 2007 with a vision of once again having an artisan bread company. With a business philosophy of creating handcrafted breads that could be baked using a traditional wood-fired masonry oven, Carter's Creekside Bakery was established in August 2009.

Selecting where to sell the bread in Williamsport was not hard. In keeping with the principles of the Slow Food Movement, the Williamsport Outdoor Grower's Market with its standard of all vendors producing what they sell, perfectly aligned with the company's handcrafted, local philosophy.

Charles' wife, Jeannette Fraser Carter, manages the sales and marketing, leaving Charles time to create the handcrafted bread with careful attention to consistent quality.
